North Potomac Teen Wins Speed Skating Championship

Gabriella Hachem, 14, competed in Omaha, NE over the weekend

A North Potomac teenager won the U.S. National Championship title at the 2013 US Short Track Age Graded Championships, which concluded Sunday in Omaha, NE.

Gabriella Hachem, 14, is an eighth grader at Robert Frost Middle School in Rockville.

She won three of four distances in her Junior C Women's 13-14 age group, winning the 1,000-meter, 777-meter, and 1,500-meter superfinal events, according to Alison Mittelstadt of Potomac Speedskating Club—the club with which Gabrialla competes.

If she finishes in the top four at Junior Nationals, Gabrialla will be named to the US Junior World Championship team, according to Mittelstadt.
