Sports Report: Top-Seeded Gaithersburg Baseball Eliminated and More

No. 1 Gaithersburg was eliminated in the regional quarterfinal by No. 9 Wootton. Quince Orchard's boys and girls lacrosse teams fall short in regional semis.

With a No. 1 seed comes lofty expectations, and unfortunately for the Gaithersburg High School varsity baseball team they were unable to be met.

After a first-round bye to the 4A West region quarterfinals, the top-seeded Trojans were eliminated by No. 9 Wootton, 7-3.

Gaithersburg squandered a potentially easier opportunity to advance through the regional bracket. Wootton will host No. 12 Northwest in the 4A West semifinals opposite No. 2 Bethesda Chevy Chase and No. 11 Churchill.

Quince Orchard Lacrosse Falls to Northern Rival

The Quince Orchard boys lacrosse season came to a close Monday, and it's bookended by losses to Urbana.

After dropping a tight 7-6 affair in the season opener to Urbana, the Cougars again fell—this time on the road—by a score of 12-8 in the regional semifinals.

Quince Orchard was led by Jake Christensen and Dylan Chaiken, who each scored three goals, according to a report by The Gazette.

The Cougar girls also were eliminated in the regional semifinals. The No. 2 Lady Cougars were downed by No. 11 Linganore, 15-7.
