No-Pants Ride, Delays on Red Line: Metro This Weekend

Expect Red Line delays from 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, through closing on Sunday, Metro reported on its website. 

And, expect riders without pants on Sunday afternoon, The Washington Post reported.

First, the deets on the delays: Red Line trains will run every 16 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont, with additional trains running between Shady Grove and Union Station from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Metro reported.

The delays will make way for fence replacement and light pole installation between NoMa-Gallaudet and Rhode Island Avenue stations, Metro added.

Trains on the Blue, Orange, Yellow and Green lines will operate every 20 minutes, Metro reported. "Green Line trains will operate every 20 minutes throughout the weekend to allow for qualification and acceptance testing of new 7000-series railcars." Read more about this weekend's delays on Metro's website.

These delays coincide with the "No Pants Subway Ride" this Sunday, The Post reported. The annual ride was started by the New York City group Improv Everywhere in 2002, and has taken place in several cities across the world one day each winter for many years. 

"The idea behind No Pants is simple: Random passengers board a subway car at separate stops in the middle of winter without pants. The participants do not behave as if they know each other, and they all wear winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. The only unusual thing is their lack of pants," Improv Everywhere states on its website.

The Post added that participants are encouraged to bring pants with them, in case an authority figure requires that pants be worn. In DC, a group of No Pants riders will meet at the L'Enfant Metro station at 2 p.m., The Post and the group's Facebook event page added.
