Thomas J. Basile, 59, of Gaithersburg, died Wednesday, May 15.
A Gaithersburg resident a local business owner died May 15 after a yearlong battle with cancer, according to The Post-Journal. Thomas J. Basile, 59, originally of Jamestown, NY, developed his own consulting business—Seneca Creek Consulting—which specialized in helping other small businesses break into the military and government markets, according to the report. Tom is survived by his three children: Lindsey Madelina, Samantha Marian and John Carmelo; and his former wife and friend, Denese Margolius, all of Gaithersburg. The family will receive friends in the Lind Funeral Home from 2-3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, to be followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, according to the report. From postal inspectors to small-town sheriffs, Congress has dedicated the week of May 15 to honoring America's law enforcement officers, especially those killed in the line of duty, each year. Three police officers from Maryland were added to National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC, including Montgomery County Police Officer William Dewitt Talbert. Talbert died Jan. 27, 2012 at the age of 64 as a result of contracting hepatitis C, according to a memorial page created for Talbert. On June 30, 1983, Talbert was standing between his patrol car and another vehicle—which a drunk driver hit, pinning him between the cars. Thomas W. Carr Jr. was the first to lead a restructured county fire department.
Thomas W. Carr Jr., a 31-year veteran of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service who served as its first countywide chief, died Wednesday in Charleston, SC, the county fire and rescue service announced in a news release. He was 59. Carr suffered from complications from multiple system atrophy, a rare neurological disorder that causes symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease. Ill health forced Carr to retire as chief of the Charleston Fire Department last year, the release said. Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan (D) appointed Carr the first chief of a unified county fire and rescue service in 2004. Julius Persensky, who served on Gaithersburg's City Council from 1980 to 1995, died Saturday, April 20.
Former Gaithersburg City Council member Julius Persensky died Saturday, April 20, the city announced. Persensky had served on the City Council from 1980 to 1995 and continued to serve the city in numerous roles after his elected service expired, Mayor Sidney A. Katz said in a statement.
