Evening MARC Commute Disrupted By Downed Tree Near Gaithersburg

Three Brunswick Line trains are cancelled for Thursday evening.

A downed tree along the MARC train's Brunswick Line near Gaithersburg will prevent three trains from running their normal evening route, the Maryland Transit Administration announced Thursday. The following trains will not operate this afternoon: Train 877 (4:55 p.m. departure) will operate through to Martinsburg and Train 881 will make all stops between Washington and Martinsburg, according to the MTA. The downed tree lies about 50 yards north of the Washington Grove station, WUSA 9 reported. State transit officials said more than 800 MARC passengers were delayed for several hours Thursday morning. Passengers on the three affected trains were transported by bus to the Shady Grove Metro station to continue their commute into Washington, DC…

New Brunswick Line Schedule Adds Evening Stop in Gaithersburg

New schedule set to take effect on Monday, Jan. 14, with a 5:05 p.m. stop at Metropolitan Grove.

Some evening stops at Boyds, Dickerson and Washington Grove will be dropped, while Gaithersburg's Metropolitan Grove station adds a stop under changes to MARC’s Brunswick Line schedule, set to take effect Monday, Jan. 14. Maryland transportation officials announced the changes Monday. Major changes include: A side-by-side comparison of the changes is available at MTA.Maryland.gov. The Brunswick Line is part of the MARC (Maryland Area Regional Commuter) train system and carries thousands of commuters between Washington, DC, and Martinsburg, WV, stopping through Gaithersburg along the way. MARC Schedule Changes May Worsen MoCo Commute

Montgomery County to lose eight train times.

Schedule changes to the MARC train Brunswick line are not in the best interest of Montgomery County, according to Montgomery County Council members. The Brunswick line runs from Martinsburg, WV, to Washington, DC, and serves approximately of 7,800 people. In order to reduce congestion and lag on tracks, MARC officials have announced an adjusted Brunswick schedule. To account for the adjustment, smaller stations on the line will have fewer departures. The service reductions will do little good for Montgomery County, according to councilmembers Phil Andrews (D-Dist.3), Craig Rice (D-Dist.2) and Marc Elrich (D-At-Large). “Given the level of congestion in the county, any level of reduction of transit service during rush hour is problematic and…
