Montgomery County officials broke ground Thursday on the new Travilah Fire Station, according to a report by WAMU.

Montgomery County officials broke ground Thursday on a new fire station at the corner of Shady Grove Road and Darnestown Road, WAMU reported. The Travilah Fire Station will serve the Gaithersburg-Rockville-North Potomac region which has grown rapidly since a temporary station was opened decades ago, fire chief Richard Bowers told WAMU. "We used to call it the little green house on the prairie, because the only thing that was here was the fire station," says Bowers. "There was nothing behind us." The Travilah station will sit across from the University of Maryland, Shady Grove campus, with the county's Life Sciences Center and Shady Grove Adventist Hospital nearby. The car making the left turn was struck on the left side. The motorcyclist was wearing a firefighter's t shirt... He must have some experience with unusual traffic situations…   more ›

Traffic Questions Raised About Darnestown Road

Two questions arose about traffic in areas of Darnestown Road in this week's edition of "Bumper to Bumper" in The Gazette.

Two questions about traffic issues on opposite ends of Darnestown Road (Rt. 28) arose in this week's edition of "Bumper to Bumper" in The Gazette. Potomac's Katherine Marshall asks The Gazette why the lights between Darnestown Road and Shady Grove Road's entrance to I-270 aren't timed better for the flow of traffic. I kept thinking I was simply having bad luck but eventually realized it’s not me.” On the other end of the road, Poolesville's Rich Huelbig wondered if there are any plans to install turn arrows at the …

The evening commute is really daunting as the lanes merge from two lanes to the single lane at Riffle Ford Rd. Lots of people ride the turning lane and then cut off the drivers who merged when they were supposed to. There …   more ›
