Henry A. Wise Defeats Quince Orchard To Win 4A State Title

Pumas defeat Cougars, 12-7, on go-ahead 23-yard touchdown pass with 2:14 remaining in fourth quarter.

Onlookers expecting a close, defensive battle between Quince Orchard and Dr. Henry Wise High School in the 4A State Championship on Friday evening at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore got more than anticipated. In a game where points and first downs came at a premium, Wise (14-0) capped an undefeated season by edging Quince Orchard, 12-7, for its first football state championship. Quince Orchard (12-2) had also suffered a narrow setback in last year's 4A state title game. The Pumas and Cougars arrived with similar recent pasts, with both knowing what it was like to walk off the field at Ravens' Stadium having suffered one-point setbacks to Old Mill. QO had the game won - just like last year! If the 15 year unsportsmanlike penalty is not called, QO scores and gets a two point conversion and game is over! However, the game HAS to be played for all 60 minutes and the players cannot do anything STUPID! But, such is life! QO head coach says he respects Coach Parrish, well I think it was disrespectful of him to stand in the middle of the field at the end of the Championship game with his hands on his hips as if he was appalled at the sight of young men celebrating a hard fought game.
