School Deadlines Wootton High School has extended its deadline to Monday, May 7, for students to register for Summer Institute courses. Registration forms can be found on the school's website or in the main office and should be submitted to Mrs. Cunningham in room 41. She can be reached at 301-517-4750 with any questions. Quince Orchard High School is celebrating "Arts Week". Don't miss out on two events showcasing the school's finest performers: The school is also hosting a "Signing Day" ceremony on Friday for its class of 2012 athletes to honor them and recognize where they will continue their athletic careers next year. Montgomery County Police participate in DEA nationwide Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 28.
Montgomery County residents will be able to legally dispose of excess prescription drugs Saturday, April 28 as part of Nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The Washington Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is working with local law enforcement agencies, government, and public health organizations across the country to present the program — which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — in an effort to prevent the increasing problems of pill abuse and theft that occur nationwide. Police Chief Tom Manger designated the county's six district stations and headquarters as dropoff locations. Country music station WMZQ, 98.7 FM, is hosting a Battle of the Bands contest that ends at noon on Friday. To enter, submit a YouTube link to a video of your band to the contest site that is no longer than four minutes. Be sure to read the rules. "Six bands will be chosen to perform on May 3rd or May 17th at Growler's in Gaithersburg and compete for the chance to open the day at WMZQ Fest on June 3rd!" according to the contest's website. If you haven't already filed your taxes, hurry to a post office — if you don't, you'll be hearing from the IRS. Today (Tuesday, April 17) is tax deadline day. Post offices will be running on normal operating hours, but Suburban Post Office in Gaithersburg will process mail (postmarked with today's date) until the final collection at midnight. Here are your local post offices and hours of operation for Tuesday: If you need to drop off your taxes from a different location, you can find your nearest post office on the United States Postal Service website.

Tax deadlines are nearing for taxpayers around the country. This week is your last chance to get your forms filed before the April 17 deadline. Does April 17 sound a little weird? This year, taxpayers have been granted a two-day extension because April 14-15 is a weekend and April 16 is Emancipation Day in the District of Columbia. “Just because there are two extra days this year to file your taxes doesn’t mean you should procrastinate,” warned Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot, “Taxpayers who wait until the last minute to file, especially those who file by paper, can miss deductions or make mistakes. School Deadlines Quince Orchard High School senior fees are due (ongoing) and currently sit at $70 and increase by $5 on a monthly basis. The deadline to apply for Wootton High School's $5,000 college scholarship is Sunday, April 1. Go to RememberRobert.org for more information. Wootton students need to clear obligations posted on Edline by Friday, March 30 in order to receive their report cards on time. This affects eligibility for all extracurricular activities.
