Report: Three Local Football Stars To Play In Big 33 Classic All-Star Game

Quince Orchard head coach Dave Mencarini will serve as an assistant coach in the game, The Gazette reports.

Quince Orchard High School star linebacker Marcus Newby has one game left to play before leaving the Cougars for Lincoln, Neb.  Newby is among five Montgomery County football players selected to participate in the Big 33 Classic, a Pennsylvania-based all-star game scheduled for June 15, The Gazette reported. Newby is committed to the University of Nebraska. Quince Orchard head football coach Dave Mencarini will serve as an assistant coach in the game, which features players from Pennsylvania against players from Maryland. Joining Newby and Mencarini in Hershey, Pa. for the game are Avalon teammates running back Rachid Ibrahim and defensive back Jaquille Veii, according to the report. Editor’s Note: This is the second in a two-part Q&A about the Quince Orchard-Henry A. Wise state championship game. Part I ran Wednesday on Gaithersburg Patch. Gaithersburg’s Quince Orchard High School will meet Upper Marlboro’s Henry A. Wise High School in Friday night’s Maryland 4A Division state football championship game. Quince Orchard hopes to avenge last season’s loss in the state title game, 36-35 to Old Mill, while Wise returns to the title game for the third time in four seasons. QO's Newby Drawing Attention from Nation's Top Programs

Junior Linebacker is among the most highly recruited Cougar athletes in school history.

It's been a busy offseason for Quince Orchard's Marcus Newby. Since last football season ended, the standout linebacker, currently a junior, has spent much of the winter and spring entertaining offers from some of the country's top college football programs — Oklahoma, Nebraska, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Maryland to name a few — making him one of the most highly sought after recruits in QO history. According to Rivals.com, defending national champion Alabama and Ohio State have also shown interest.
