Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Gaithersburg

Tell us what this holiday means to you and how you will celebrate?

Monday, Jan. 21, is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. For some, the national holiday honoring the prominent civil rights activist is a time to give back and serve the community, be it through removing graffiti or picking up litter in a local park. For others, it’s an opportunity to educate themselves about King and his life's work. And for others, it’s a time to just kick back and enjoy the prolonged weekend. In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a countywide food drive to benefit Gaithersburg's Manna Food Center will be conducted at 27 Giant Food locations in Montgomery County on Saturday, Jan. 19, and Sunday, Jan. 20. Groups are encouraged to “adopt a store” for one or both days to help Manna collect food donations. Every year on his birthday in a city some where a black person dies or a black person kills another black person for no reason at all.....I think about m.l.king alot and I know he wouldn't like today's people cause I love my people but at times can't stand to hear the stupid things they do.....sagging, ,, killing at a young age,,,, have four different baby's daddy, ,, ...etc. the list can go on I…   more ›

Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Rockville

Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. For some, the national holiday honoring the prominent civil rights activist is a time to give back and serve the community, be it through removing graffiti or picking up litter in a local park. For others, it’s an opportunity to educate themselves about King and his life's work. And for others, it’s a time to just kick back and enjoy the prolonged weekend. Living the Dream: Rockville Honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The City of Rockville will hold its annual celebration of King’s life at 10 a.m. Monday at Richard Montgomery High School.
