Six Maryland Schools to Be Named State Blue Ribbon Winners

The schools are from Baltimore, Carroll, Howard, Montgomery and Washington counties.

Six Maryland schools from five different counties will be awarded the 2013 Blue Ribbon School Award Thursday, the state superintendent's office announced. The schools, which will be named at a ceremony in Baltimore, are located in Baltimore, Carroll, Howard, Montgomery and Washington counties. Maryland's Blue Ribbon schools are selected by the State Department of Education for showing a great improvement or consistent high performance in the reading and math portions of the Maryland State Assessments. In addition to recognition by elected officials, winning schools receive prizes and money donated by corporate sponsors.  Winners in Maryland are then nominated for the National Blue Ribbon Schools program administered by the U.S. Department …

VIDEO: Rachel Carson Elementary Receives Blue Ribbon Proclamation

The Montgomery County Council presented Rachel Carson Elementary School with a proclamation for being awarded a 2012 Maryland Blue Ribbon School.

The Montgomery County Council presented Rachel Carson Elementary School with a proclamation Tuesday for its recent selection as a Maryland Blue Ribbon School for 2012. Rachel Carson was one of six Maryland schools selected in January by the Maryland State Department of Education. The title, Blue Ribbon School, is given to schools that have shown high performance or significant improvement in student achievement, and the schools must demonstrate high achievement over a five-year period.
