Red Line Metro Trains Single Track This Weekend

This weekend's scheduled track work on the Red Line will end at noon on Sunday.

Red Line trains will single track between the Farragut North and Judiciary Square Metrorail stations this weekend, from 10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, through noon on Sunday, Jan. 27, Metro reported on its website. During this time, trains will operate every 20 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont. Additional trains will run between Shady Grove and Farragut North between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday and between 9 a.m. and noon on Sunday, providing service about every 10 minutes between those stations, Metro added. Plan your commute carefully on Jan. 21.

While fewer people are expected to attend President Obama's second inauguration on Jan. 21, projections still show between 600,000 and 800,000 people will be there. That alone would cause an increase in traffic on Washington, DC's roads, buses, trains and sidewalks. For safety and security reasons, a number of roads surrounding the National Mall will be closed on Jan. 21. Some Metrorail stations and Metrobus routes will be affected as well. Red Line Single Tracks in 2 Work Zones

Red Line trains will single track between Friendship Heights and Ven Ness, and between Rhode Island Avenue and Fort Totten so that scheduled track maintenance can take place along the lines.

This weekend, Red Line trains will single track through two work zones, according to Metro's website: Throughout the weekend, trains running between Shady Grove and Glenmont will operate every 24 minutes, Metro reported. Between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, additional trains will operate between Van Ness and NoMa-Gallaudet, resulting in service about every 12 minutes between those stations, Metro added. Customers traveling through either work zone should allow 15 minutes of additional travel time, Metro advised. Metro advised passengers traveling through either work zone to allow for 15 minutes of additional travel time.

Red Line trains single track this weekend—from 10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, through closing on Sunday—in two work zones, according to Metro's website. Single tracking will take place:  "Throughout the weekend, trains between Shady Grove and Glenmont will operate every 24 minutes. Metro Stays Open Late on New Year's Eve

On New Year's Eve, Metro trains will run later than usual for a weekday.

This New Year's Eve, using "rushing to catch the last Metro" as an excuse to gulp down the Champagne won't work: Metro will remain open until 2 a.m. on New Year's Eve (technically New Year's Day by that time) "for the benefit of holiday revelers," Metro reported on its website. Here's the holiday schedule for Metro: On New Year's Eve, Metro will be open for regular weekday service. The Metrorail system will stay open two hours later than usual (closing at 2 a.m.). Last train times will vary by station—Metro advises adding on two hours to weekeday last train times. On New Year's Day, Metrorail and Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule. Metrorail will operate from 7 a.m. to midnight. MetroAccess subscription trips will be cancelled.

No scheduled track work on the Red Line this weekend.

Weekend track work on the Red Line takes a break this weekend, Dec. 29 and 30, according to Metro's website. "The vast majority of Metrorail customers will enjoy normal service—free of track work—over the two weekends that precede the Christmas and New Year's holidays," Metro reported. This weekend, "there will be no scheduled track work on the Red, Orange, Blue or Yellow lines. The only planned work will take place on the Green Line, and will only affect customers traveling to or from Greenbelt Station," Metro added. Weekend track work on the Red Line takes a break this weekend, Dec. 22 and 23, according to Metro's website. "The vast majority of Metrorail customers will enjoy normal service—free of track work—over the two weekends that precede the Christmas and New Year's holidays," Metro reported. During the weekends of Dec. 22 through 23 and 29 through 30, "there will be no scheduled track work on the Red, Orange, Blue or Yellow lines. The only planned work will take place on the Green Line, and will only affect customers traveling to or from Greenbelt Station," Metro added. 5 Red Line Metrorail Stations Close This Weekend

Passengers traveling through the work zone via shuttle bus should allow for about 50 to 60 minutes of additional travel time, Metro advised.

Five Red Line Metrorail stations will close this weekend for scheduled track work, according to Metro's website. The closed stations will be: Takoma, Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton and Glenmont. Scheduled track work this weekend begins at 10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, and concludes at system closing on Sunday night. "Free shuttle buses will replace Red Line trains between Fort Totten and Glenmont to allow for track renewal, signal improvements, platform reconstruction and fiber optic cable installation," Metro reported.
