A statewide gun turn-in program included three drop-off locations in Montgomery County, police said.
More than 100 guns and 10,000 rounds of ammunition were turned in to three police stations in Montgomery County as part of a statewide gun turn-in program during the weekend. Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler (D) said that he initiated the event in February during the legislative swirl of gun control bills, The Washington Post reported. A restrictive gun control package for the state was passed by the Maryland General Assembly in April. “This gives family members the opportunity to remove illegal and unwanted guns from the home that they fear would be used to harm themselves or others,” Gansler told the newspaper. Three drop-off locations collected the following weapons, according to police: Donations to the University of Maryland …

The planning board will once again take up a bus rapid transit concept, including a proposal to dedicate Rockville Pike travel lanes for the high-speed buses.
The Montgomery County Planning Board will decide Thursday whether to advance a proposal for a 79-mile, 10-route bus rapid transit system into the public hearing stage. As a part of the proposal, Montgomery County planners are recommending that two travel lanes of Rockville Pike from the Capital Beltway to Western Avenue be re-purposed as dedicated rapid transit bus lanes. Planners say the rapid transit route would draw high ridership, but drivers could see their afternoon rush trip increase by nearly six minutes from Western Avenue to Cedar Lane by 2040. Recommendations for corridors across the county vary from buses driving in mixed traffic to developing new busways separated from traffic. Planners are also recommending taking out travel …

The coaches of the Montgomery team, Marla Shapiro and Don Shulman, have similar goals for the six members of the team which trains twice a week at locations such as the Montgomery College track in Rockville and Lake Needwood. NBC4: Maryland drivers rack up more tickets than DC drivers.
Gas? Check. Oil? Check. GPS? Check. Speeding ticket? Check? Speed cameras seem to be multiplying in the metropolitan Washington area, and while they may be a deterrent to some drivers, others may view the charge for whizzing by one as just another cost of driving. NBC4 reported that, in 2012, Maryland had a much higher rate of repeat offenders ticketed by speed cameras than Washington, DC. “In the Maryland suburbs you’re about twice as likely to get multiple tickets,” David Marker, a senior statistician with the American Statistical Association, told NBC4. “By the time you get up to 5 or 10 tickets, you're 20 times more likely to get multiple tickets in the Maryland suburbs than in DC.” Montgomery County had the highest percentage of …
