Ride On Bus Crash Halts Traffic Thursday Along Muddy Branch Road

Southbound Muddy Branch Road was closed for a short time between Harmony Hall Road and W. Diamond Avenue after a Nissan Maxima rear-ended a Ride On bus, police said.

Traffic along southbound Muddy Branch Road between Harmoney Hall Road and W. Diamond Avenue was halted for a brief time Thursday afternoon because of a collision involving a Nissan Maxima and a Ride On bus, Montgomery County police said. Police said the Maxima, driven by a 19-year-old male, crashed into the back of the bus around 12:45 p.m. when the driver failed to see that the bus was stopped and unloading passengers in the lane in front of him. The driver of the Maxima had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said. Forum Addresses Fatal Pedestrian Crashes in Germantown, Gaithersburg

Advocacy group plans to host forum at Germantown Library on Jan. 26

Deadly crashes involving pedestrians in Germantown and Gaithersburg will be addressed at a public forum at Germantown Library later this month. The Action Committee for Transit (ACT) is hosting the event on Jan. 26, the transit advocacy group announced Wednesday. Barbara McCann, founder of the National Complete Streets Coalition, is the guest speaker. The forum was spurred by deadly collisions involving pedestrians upcounty. Germantown high school student Christina Morris-Ward was struck and killed by a car while crossing Germantown Road on her way to Seneca Valley High School on Oct. 31, 2012. Police Investigate Armed Robbery At Gaithersburg Pizza Hut

Officers were dispatched to the Pizza Hut at 299 Muddy Branch Road at 1:43 p.m. for reports of an armed robbery, Gaithersburg police said.

Gaithersburg police are investigating an armed robbery at the Pizza Hut restaurant at 299 Muddy Branch Road, Gaithersburg police officer Dan Lane said. Officers were dispatched to the Festival Shopping Center restaurant at 1:43 p.m., Lane said. No further information was available, Lane said.

A Gaithersburg woman who was struck by a vehicle on Muddy Branch Road near Suffield Drive has died, police said.

A Gaithersburg pedestrian who was hit by a car Monday has died, Gaithersburg Patch reports. Yessenia M. Martinez Rivas, 37, was hospitalized and died hours later from injuries she suffered after being hit by a Toyota Prius traveling north on Muddy Branch Road, police said. The accident occured at around 5:30 p.m. Rivas was in the roadway, near Suffield Drive. Police said the driver, Daniel Ray Levine, 66, of North Potomac, remained at the scene.. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision and have not spoken to detectives to please contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.  Callers may remain anonymous.

UPDATED: Pedestrian Hit by Car on Muddy Branch Road Dies

A Gaithersburg woman who was struck by a vehicle on Muddy Branch Road near Suffield Drive has died, police said.

(Update, 9:03 a.m.) A Gaithersburg woman who was struck by a vehicle on Muddy Branch Road near Suffield Drive has died, police said. Yessenia M. Martinez Rivas, 37, of the 100 block of Lamont Lane, was taken to Shady Grove Hospital and then flown to Medstar after being hit by a vehicle that was traveling northbound on Muddy Branch Road on Monday about 5:30 p.m., police said. She died about 11:15 p.m., according to police. Police identified the driver as Daniel Ray Levine, 66, of the 14400 block of Kings Grant Street in North Potomac. Levine remained at the scene and provided information to investigators, police said. A preliminary investigation revealed that a gray 2006 Toyota Prius was traveling northbound on Muddy Branch Road and struck …
