UPDATED: Pedestrian Struck, Killed By School Bus On Clopper Road

A 55-year-old man was struck and killed by a school bus Thursday morning in Gaithersburg.

Update, 1:20 p.m. Montgomery County police have identified the victim of Thursday morning's fatal pedestrian collision as George Pezdirtz III, of the 900 block of Clopper Road in Gaithersburg. Montgomery County police and Fire and Rescue services responded to the area of Clopper Road and Metropolitan Grove Road at approximately 6:26 a.m. for the report of a personal injury collision, according to a news release. Preliminary investigation revealed Pezdirtz, 55, was crossing Clopper Road just east of Metropolitan Grove Road when he was struck by a Montgomery County school bus that was traveling westbound on Clopper Road, police said. Map: 12 Pedestrian, Bike Collisions in Montgomery County This Year

  Just 10 weeks into 2013, Montgomery County Patch.com websites have reported 12 vehicle collisions involving pedestrians or bicyclists. Four pedestrians and one bicyclist were killed as a result, with all of the deaths occurring in the middle and eastern portions of the county. An analyst for Montgomery County Council President Nancy Navarro (D-Dist 4) described the cluster of deaths in Silver Spring and Wheaton as "simply unacceptable," and suggested police "aggressively ticket drivers who speed or fail to stop for pedestrians at crosswalks." Mother, Young Children Struck on North Summit Ave.

The mother and two children were struck while on a sidewalk crossing in the 100 block of North Summit Avenue Tuesday morning in Gaithersburg.

A mother and her two elementary school-aged children were struck by a vehicle at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday while on the sidewalk crossing the driveway access to a parking lot in the 100 block of North Summit Avenue, according to a news release by Montgomery County police. Police have not yet released additional information, but reported that the three were transported to a local emergency room with non-life threatening injuries. Two other pedestrian collisions also occurred in Montgomery County Tuesday: A Watkins Mill High School student was hit while walking to school, and a car struck struck a pedestrian while crossing Wisconsin Avenue at Chelsea Lane. A Watkins Mill High School student struck by a vehicle while walking to school Tuesday is expected to be released from the hospital Tuesday evening, Watkins Mill principal Scott Murphy wrote in a letter to the school community. 4-Year-Old Hit By Car in Germantown Saturday

Police: Girl ran into the street, struck side of van

A 4-year-old girl who was hospitalized after being struck by a car in Germantown on Saturday, had run into the street and struck the side of a van, a Montgomery County Police spokesman told The Gazette. Initial reports were that a pedestrian was struck on Summer Oak Drive at around 5:10 p.m., several news outlets have reported. The child was flown to the hospital and was “conscious and alert,” according to WTOP.

A Gaithersburg woman who was struck by a vehicle on Muddy Branch Road near Suffield Drive has died, police said.

(Update, 9:03 a.m.) A Gaithersburg woman who was struck by a vehicle on Muddy Branch Road near Suffield Drive has died, police said. Yessenia M. Martinez Rivas, 37, of the 100 block of Lamont Lane, was taken to Shady Grove Hospital and then flown to Medstar after being hit by a vehicle that was traveling northbound on Muddy Branch Road on Monday about 5:30 p.m., police said. She died about 11:15 p.m., according to police. Police identified the driver as Daniel Ray Levine, 66, of the 14400 block of Kings Grant Street in North Potomac. Levine remained at the scene and provided information to investigators, police said.
