Arts Scene: Two Local Artists In Solo Exhibits, 'Vortex' Debut, 27th Annual Juried Art Exhibition

Exhibit Features Photos by Germantown Vegetable Farmer

‘Fragility’ includes photographs by Woody Woodroof, founder of Red Wiggler Community

Photographs taken by an organic vegetable farmer in Germantown will be part of an exhibit in Silver Spring and will include banner-size prints of plant silhouettes on hemp—all created without the aid of a dark room. The exhibit, “Fragility,” will be on view at the Betty Mae Kramer Gallery and Music Room in the Silver Spring Civic Center from Dec. 3 through Jan. 28. An opening reception set for Dec. 13, the Montgomery County arts council announced Monday. Woody Woodroof, an established artist and founder of Red Wiggler Community Farm, will display his cyanotype photograms of plants on and around the farm. Printed on hemp, the delicate images appear on both sides of the fabric, creating ghost-like forms. Woodroof has been using alternative …

Photography and Watercolor Exhibit on Display at Arts Barn

The Arts Barn is preparing to launch a new art exhibit, just in time for the holiday season. The city of Gaithersburg presents an exhibit featuring the photography of Howard Clark, Phil Fabrizio and Richard Weiblinger, and watercolors by Vian Shamounki Borchert and her students at the Arts Barn Gallery, from Nov. 21, through Jan. 21. Per the city: Howard Clark was a travel photographer for a 10-year period ending in early 2011, with a digital archive covering no fewer than 15 cities in Asia, 30 cities in Europe, and countless locations across the United States and Canada. Rockville Artist Featured in BlackRock Terrace Exhibit

Work by fine-art photographer Ronald Gregory will be on view at BlackRock Center for the Arts’ Terrace Gallery, which showcases work by local artists. The exhibit—which runs from Wednesday, Oct. 10 through Friday, Nov. 30—will feature photos that take on the quality of abstract expressionist paintings, according to organizers. Photography Exhibit at Kentlands Mansion

Through October 2, 2011, the Kentlands Mansion is hosting a photography show, including the work of Gwen Lewis, Elysa Barron and Andrew Wohl. Each photographer takes a different approach to documenting his/her surroundings and sharing these observations with the public. Lewis is a documentary photographer who specializes in black and white photography. She captures the patterns and changes of rural America through its people, architecture, signage and landscape. The series of her photographs in the show tells the story of several rural communities Lewis has visited, including Kingsbury Orchard locally. She knows the owners and workers there by name. Quince Orchard Graduate Pursues Photography Career In New York

Before Anna Karadimas could start her dream job as an assistant photo editor at Seventeen magazine in New York City, she had an important stop to make in North Potomac. A 2006 graduate of Quince Orchard High School, Karadimas paid a visit to the photography teacher who she said first motivated her interest. "Mrs. Fitzpatrick was a mentor and I think of her four years later," Karadimas told Patch. "Because of her and her help and her work, I am now doing what it is that I love to do."
