No entry was made, police report.
UPDATE: A school security guard saw the teens attempting to break into the school, Officer Dan Lane told Patch in an email. "Because of the distance from where the security officer was and where the kids were, there is no further description of the two teenage males," Lane said. A K-9 unit was called and tracked the teens to Quince Orchard Drive, but they were not apprehended. ORIGINAL POST: Two teenage boys tried to break into Rachel Carson Elementary School around shortly after midnight, according to Gaithersburg Police. The boys were seen trying to enter one of the portable classrooms, according to the Community Crime Summary posted on the City's website. Our Patch Moms Council discusses back-to-school tips and gives sage advice.
Each week our Moms Council discusses a different parenting issue. Join the conversation by weighing in on a topic or ask our panel of experts your question. This week's question comes from local reader and Patch contributor, Sharina Hunt. With school starting around the corner, how do you go about back-to-school shopping? Do you shop once and get it all done; do you shop ads through the back-to-school rush; do you buy the kit the schools offer; and how do you budget for the cost especially with multiple kids? Michele Zaiderman: As for school supplies, I look over the list and pick up things as I go through the summer. I tend to look for good sales. I love when you can buy glue for 25 cents and other items really cheap! Being a teacher, I …

Carol Knoblach has been at Travilah since 1996
Carol Knoblach, a fourth grade teacher at Travilah Elementary School, was selected this September as one of the outstanding teachers receiving the Marian Greenblatt Excellence in Teaching Award. "The one reason that we are here is because of academics, and she is an amazing, amazing teacher and the children would follow her to the end of the earth," said Travilah Elementary School Principal Susan Shenk in an interview. "She has done an outstanding job of inspiring." Shenk nominated Knoblach as a veteran teacher. This requires that the teacher be full-time and spend the majority of her time teaching. The teacher must also have five years experience in Montgomery County Public Schools at the time of nomination. Knoblach was one of four …

The beloved Quince Orchard High School teacher died in her home at the end of August.
In the chaotic and intimidating halls of a bustling high school, one office became a shelter. On the third floor of Quince Orchard High School, Ms. Sumner sat in 30B with the door open. When a new teacher was struggling with a lesson plan, she was there with a donut and advice. When a student found it difficult to concentrate on schoolwork while dealing with a challenging home environment, she was there to work through every problem until together they found a solution. When a friend felt insecure about his interests, she was there to listen and tell him to take pride in himself. Nikki Sumner, or Ms. Sumner as her students knew her, taught engineering and self-empowerment to kids and adults at Quince Orchard High School. But she was not …
