A Germantown man faces assault and sex offense charges stemming from reports of an armed home invasion in Frederick, MD. Perry Eugene Lee, 21, of the 13000 block of Ansel Terrace, is accused of breaking into a home and sexually assaulting a resident on Saturday, according to a press release issued by Frederick police. Lee was arrested in connection with reports of a disturbance—a group of males arguing, one with a gun in his waistband—at around 1 a.m. Saturday. Police said Lee matched the description of the man with the gun. Police claim Lee had a loaded firearm, crack and marijuana at the time of his arrest, The Frederick News-Post reports. Not guilty verdict for Neelsville Middle School teacher Cuyler Jay Cornell, accused of fondling one of his students.
A Germantown teacher was acquitted on charges of sexual abuse and sex offense, ending a week-long trial spurred by a former student’s allegations that the educator fondled him at school. The jury took nearly two hours to render the not guilty verdict Tuesday. Facing the charges was Cuyler Jay Cornell, 51, of Germantown, who taught seventh grade English at Neelsville Middle School. Cornell cupped his fingers over his eyes as his family shrieked and sobbed from the courtroom gallery immediately after the verdict was read. Three teens testified Monday in the sex abuse trial involving a Neelsville Middle School teacher.
In their court testimony Monday, two male students said that they were uncomfortable with how a Germantown English teacher touched them when they were students at Neelsville Middle School. A third teen claimed he received back and shoulder rubs from the teacher but said he didn’t think anything was wrong with it at the time. “I don’t know,” the teen said. “I didn’t really notice it.” The three were brought to Montgomery County Circuit Court on Friday to testify against Cuyler Jay Cornell, 51, of Germantown. During his testimony in circuit court on Friday, a Germantown teacher adamantly denied allegations that he touched a former male student’s private parts. “Did you ever touch or attempt to touch (the alleged victim’s) penis?” defense attorney Reginald W. Policymakers agree that teens need to be protected against the sexual advances of adult coaches, but, to date, no law has been implemented that prohibits part-time coaches from preying on their young proteges outside of school. Two recent cases throw the necessity for such a law into sharp relief. Last week, charges were dropped against Scott Spear, a former part-time track coach at Richard Montgomery High School and a full-time teacher at Julius West Middle School, that he engaged in sex acts with a high school student. Travis Merrill Anderson assaulted woman he pulled over in fake traffic stop, police said.
A North Potomac man was charged Thursday with assault and impersonating a police officer, Gaithersburg Police said. Travis Merrill Anderson, 39, of the 12000 block of Gravehurst Lane was operating a white police interceptor Crown Victoria with tinted windows and equipped with a spotlight and emergency equipment, police said. Anderson allegedly conducted a traffic stop on Oct. 13 in the area of Darnestown and Quince Orchard roads, in which Anderson identified himself as a Montgomery County Police officer, police said. I am not sure why the ban on sexual relationships with students is limited to full-time school faculty. I don't see an acceptable reason for any adult staff, faculty, or volunteer at any public elementary, middle, or high school to engage in sexual activity with a student at that school. more ›
