Watkins Mill-Poolesville Wins Patch Game of the Week Poll
Edges highly anticipated Quince Orchard-Sherwood matchup.
In the inaugural Patch Montgomery County Football Game of the Week Poll, a surprising upstart edged out two of the county's elite programs to be selected as the Week 1 Game of the Week Friday night. With 46 percent of the vote, Watkins Mill-Poolesville knocked off Quince Orchard-Sherwood (26 percent) and the rest of the county to be nominated as GOTW. Quince Orchard is coming off a 13-1 season in which its only defeat came in overtime of the state championship. Cougars head coach Dave Mencarini told Patch he believes his program and Sherwood are the county's winningest over the last eight years.
