The National Weather Service has extended the winter weather advisory for Montgomery County through 6 p.m. Monday, and a total of 3 to 5 inches of snow is expected to accumulate. Initial predictions called for 1 to 3 inches, with snow tapering off mid-day. Now, forecasters say an additional inch could accumulate on top of the snow that's already blanketed the region, with snowfall continuing through the afternoon. Some parts of the county could see 1 to 3 inches of snow accumulate.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Montgomery County from 4 a.m. to noon on Monday, according to a Montgomery County email alert. "Initially, temperatures are expected to be around freezing, and snow or sleet are expected before warmer air moves in and changes the precipitation to rain," the alert stated. The National Weather Service added that the snow, which started Sunday night, could transition to sleet and freezing rain during the night and morning hours, according to the alert. "Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible in parts of the county," the alert added.

Threat of freezing rain spurs cancellations, schedule changes throughout county.

Montgomery County Public Schools Montgomery County Public Schools opened two hours late due to weather conditions. Bus service will be provided on a two-hour-delayed schedule. Morning prekindergarten, morning half-day Head Start, other morning half-day programs and field trips are canceled. Other activities and programs that begin at 10:30 a.m. or earlier were canceled. Administrative offices opened on time. Day care programs in school buildings will remain open as scheduled. Much of Maryland—from the D.C. metro area to the Baltimore suburbs—is under a winter weather advisory Monday morning. The advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. until noon in Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard and Montgomery counties, as well as Baltimore City, the National Weather Service announced Sunday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to be in the high 20s by midday, but morning commuters may encounter freezing rain mixed with sleet and possibly snow, according to the advisory. Montgomery County could see about an inch of snow accumulate early Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. NWS has issued a winter weather advisory for much of the Washington region, including Montgomery County, from midnight Wednesday to 9 a.m. Thursday. Untreated surfaces could become covered with snow, possibly creating slippery conditions during the morning rush hour. Temperatures will be in the teens and lower 20s Thursday morning, according to WJLA's StormWatch 7 Weather Blog. "This should be the kind of snow that you can sweep off the steps or driveway with a broom rather than a shovel," WJLA reported. "Not great for snowballs!"

Winter storm is expected to bring snow, create hazardous travel conditions Saturday.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for snow for Montgomery County on Saturday, from 3 to 6 a.m. The NWS said 1 to 3 inches of snow was in the forecast, with the majority of snowfall accumulating between 3 and 5 a.m. Temperatures will reach the upper 20s to mid 30s. The storm is expected to create hazardous travel conditions Saturday. To prepare, the State Highway Administration has sent crews to pre-treat Montgomery County roads with a salt brine. State Highway officials have asked drivers to stay off the roads until later in the day on Saturday to give crews time to clear the roads. If you must travel, allot extra time and drive slowly.

Below-freezing temperatures and a wintery mix of rain, freezing rain and sleet spurred an extended winter weather advisory for Montgomery and Prince George's counties on Wednesday. The forecast called for accumulations of less than one inch of sleet and under a tenth of an inch of ice, according to the Naitonal Weather Service. Temperatures are expected to stay below freezing, which can cause treacherous road conditions. In a statement released by the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) administrator Melinda B. The National Weather Service has issued an advisory in Montgomery County beginning tonight at 7 p.m.
A winter weather advisory for Montgomery County was issued by the National Weather Service this morning at 8:37. In effect from 7 p.m. tonight to 3 a.m., Dec. 8, the NWS says 1-2 inches of snowfall could acccumulate over night in the County. They urge caution during rush hour this evening as roads may become hazardous. According to a report on Weather.com, expected accumulation for the area is 1-3 inches, and could start as heavy rain but finish as a wet snowfall. The NWS also issued a flood watch for Montgomery County beginning at 1 p.m.
