UPDATE: Person In Custody After Bus Stabbing At Shady Grove Metro Station

Police: Suspect was 'yelling and acting erratically' before stabbing.

Update: 1:10 p.m., March 14: A 24-year-old male was charged with second-degree assault with a weapon after police said he stabbed a man while boarding a Ride On bus Wednesday evening at the Shady Grove Metro station, a county police spokesperson said. Mustapha Bamba, of an unconfirmed address, used a pocket knife to stab a 21-year-old man in the leg following an argument, Officer Rebecca Innocenti said. Police were called to the Metro station at 5:41 p.m. and the victim was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries, she said. Report: $50M Shady Grove Arena Sketched By Developers

Plans are in the works for a new $50 million, 6,500 seat arena near Shady Grove Metro, The Gazette reports.

Plans for a $50 million, multi-purpose arena slated to be built on an 8-acre property adjacent to Shady Grove Metro Station are being sketched by a local developer, The Gazette reports. Potomac native William Askinazi, principal for the development company D&A Sports and Entertainment, said he envisions a space "where indoor lacrosse championships could take place simultaneously with antique roadshows," according to the report. "A Taylor Swift concert could dominate the space one night, he said, and a Disney show could take center stage the next night." Red Line Single Tracks for System Upgrades

Red Line passengers should allow for about 10 minutes of additional travel time this weekend, Metro advised.

  Red Line trains will single track between Judiciary Square and Rhode Island Avenue this weekend, starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, March 8, and continuing through closing on Sunday, according to Metro's website. The single tracking will occur to allow for track renewal and communication system upgrades, Metro reported. Throughout the weekend, Red Line trains will operate every 20 minutes, with the exception of between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, when additional trains will operate between Shady Grove and Judiciary Square, resulting in service at about every 10 minutes between those stations, Metro added. Three Red Line Stations Closed this Weekend

Red Line trains will run every 10 minutes between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., and every 15 minutes at other times.

  Free shuttle buses will replace Red Line trains this weekend between the NoMa-Gallaudet and Takoma stations "for ongoing platform reconstruction, communication system improvements, rail renewal and DDOT bridge work," according to Metro's website. The work will start at 10 p.m. on Friday, March 1, and will continue through closing time on Sunday, March 3. During that time, three stations will be closed: Rhode Island Avenue, Brookland and Fort Totten. They cause an economic impact by doing this crap over the weekend when most of the burbers would actually like to go in to town. Red Line Metro Trains Single Track This Weekend

This weekend's scheduled track work on the Red Line will end at noon on Sunday.

Red Line trains will single track between the Farragut North and Judiciary Square Metrorail stations this weekend, from 10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, through noon on Sunday, Jan. 27, Metro reported on its website. During this time, trains will operate every 20 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont. Additional trains will run between Shady Grove and Farragut North between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday and between 9 a.m. and noon on Sunday, providing service about every 10 minutes between those stations, Metro added. Real-Time Bus Arrival Info Coming to Metrobus Stops

Up to 70 electronic screens could be installed at Metrobus shelters across the region, The Washington Examiner reports.
