O'Donnell's Sea Grill—currently celebrating its 90th year in the DC-metropolitan area—announced on its Facebook page this year will also be its last: Dear Friend/Customer of O’Donnell’s Sea Grill: We have proudly been serving the Washington D.C. metropolitan area for 90 years – and are celebrating our anniversary this year with joy and excitement. It is in this same year, that we have made the purposeful decision to officially close our doors and exit on a most high note. 25 events planned over 25 months to recognize the community's first residents
The 25th anniversary of the first residents settling in the Kentlands won’t happen until February 2016. That doesn’t mean the community is waiting that long to recognize it, though. The Kentlands 25th Anniversary celebrations are scheduled to get underway this upcoming February—two years before the anniversary date—giving the community 25 months to celebrate its 25-year history. The Kentlands Community Foundation has already begun planning and fundraising for the festivities, which will feature one event per month from February 2014 to February 2016, concluding with a gala to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the community’s first residents. City recently announced plans to expand the fall festival.
After announcing plans to expand the Kentlands Oktoberfest in 2013, the city of Gaithersburg is seeking public input on the event before the planning process moves ahead full steam. The Arts and Events Division of the City of Gaithersburg Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture will hold an open meeting to discuss plans for the event on May 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the Kentlands Mansion. The city had originally considered the possibility of replacing the fall festival with a summer arts and wine festival in the neighborhood. Related Content:

Gaithersburg police officers stopped about 100 vehicles in one hour for violations during an educational pedestrian sting in Kentlands last week, The Gazette reported. Conducted at the intersection of Market Street and Center Point Way, officers used a handful of volunteers in bright yellow T-shirts to act as pedestrian decoys, according to the report. Drivers were warned after officers saw them driving without wearing seat belts, not yielding to pedestrians and not stopping at the marked line at a stop sign, Gaithersburg police officer Dan Lane told The Gazette. City Manager: Oktoberfest will remain in Kentlands, Celebrate Gaithersburg will have a new date and theme.
Gaithersburg's Oktoberfest festival will remain in Kentlands and expand, while Celebrate Gaithersburg will have a new date and theme, City Manager Tony Tomasello told the Mayor and City Council during a fiscal 2014 budget presentation Monday. Oktoberfest, held for the past 21 years in Kentlands, will expand toward Market Square and Main Street, The Gazette reported. The festival also will add another stage of music while the beer garden and Bavarian dancers will return, with some additional activities for families, city Arts and Events Division Chief Denise Kayser told The Gazette. Kentlands Chocolatier SPAGnVOLA will open a second Gaithersburg location in May.
It's about to get easier for chocoholics to get their fix in Gaithersburg. Kentlands-based chocolatier SPAGnVOLA announced Monday it will open a second location at Lakeforest Mall. The supermarket chain will require that products must identify genetically modified organisms by 2018.
The Huffington Post recently reported that Whole Foods Markets will become the first national grocery store to require products to be labeled if they contain genetically modified organisms or GMOs. A poll conducted by the Huffington Post in coordination with YouGov found that 82 percent of Americans think GMO foods should be labeled. The groundhog seemed to know his stuff, predicting a speedy end to winter - at least on Tuesday in the Kentlands. Temperatures in the low 60s brought out backyard gardeners, amateur landscapers and just plain folks looking to get a head start on spring planting, and Patch cought up with a few of them. Sue Taxman from Darnestown came down with a case of spring fever "The Boy Scouts just dropped off the mulch I ordered," she said. "It was such a beautiful day, and I had a gift card left over from last year, so I thought I'd get an early start."
