Police: Driver in Sam’s Club Crash Was from North Potomac

Three people were injured after a car drove into the Gaithersburg Sam's Club

The man who crashed his car into the Gaithersburg Sam’s Club last week was a resident of North Potomac, Montgomery County Police said.

Three people were injured—including a 76-year-old man from Potomac who had to have part of his leg amputated—after a four-door Buick LeSabre drove crashed through the utility door building and into the food court.

Police said driver Subinoy Mazumdar, 77, of the 10800 block of Outpost Drive, struck Sheila R. Orellana, 31, of Derwood, in the parking lot.

Orellana, who was with her two young children, suffered minor injuries.

Two others were injured inside the Sam’s Club, according to police.

Dimas M. Chavez, 76, of Potomac, was the man who had part of his leg amputated. He had to be flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Thuan Bui, 33, of Boyds, was hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries.

Mazumdar was uninjured. 

Police said no charges have been filed.
